Akber Padamsee

B. 1928.Mr. Padamsee, has long been affiliated with the revolutionary "Bombay Progressive," formed the year after India gained independence from Britain. He has been a prominent and important leader in the Indian artistic community as well as playing a key roll on the international art scene. After the 70's and early 80s when the landscape dominated Padamsees canvases, he returned to the figure as a source of mythical inspiration, in particular the face. He enjoyes focusing on the faces as they communicate the character and mood of the persons most efectively as can be seen in those examples. Padamsee believes strongly that the conception of "forms without ache are futile . They are not portraits but rather images conjure up by the imagination of the artist - self portraits.
